CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY

The Miss Dance Team national championship solo division is limited to female soloists (ages 16-19). Contestants wishing to compete in this category must first receive a bid by competing at a Dance Team World sponsored regional qualifying event in their home state.

RULES & REGULATIONS

We are looking for the next ambassadors of the Dance Team World community! Soloists competing in this division are scored in a variety of areas during the course of the competition weekend. The primary focus of their score is based on their solo dance routine (1:30-2:00 duration). However they are also assessed for technique and specialty skills, as well as their ability to collaborate with others and express their own thoughts & ideas. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Awarded to top female soloists (ages 16–19) competing in the Senior Division of the National Title Solo Championship at the Dance Team World National Championship in Las Vegas. This prestigious scholarship recognizes outstanding overall performance as an elite-level dance soloist. Up to five dancers may be selected each year to receive a monetary scholarship award. HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Our flagship National Championship Title Solo Division celebrates the values of Dr. Kay Teer Crawford (1914-2001), the pioneer who invented the dance/drill team movement in 1929 and created America’s first national dance competition with Miss Drill Team USA® in 1967. 

Through this division, the Dance Team World Education Foundation preserves Dr. Crawford’s groundbreaking historic contributions while creating a distinct opportunity where dancers not only compete, but also build connections, grow as leaders, and prepare for a future in the collaborative work-force that reflects their own contributions to society.

GRADE LEVEL TITLE


CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY

The GRADE LEVEL solo division is limited to soloists in school grades K-12, representing their school dance program. Contestants wishing to compete in this category may participate at-will. There is no pre qualification requirement.


RULES & REGULATIONS

During registration, grade level solos will be submitted using the following three division selections: Grade Level, Experience Level, and Dance Genre.

GRADE LEVEL
  • High School: Dancers will generally compete against other dancers in their same grade level (example: 9,10,11,12)
  • Elementary & Middle School: Dancers will compete against others in their same grade level range (example: Elementary grades K-5, Middle School grades 6-8)
EXPERIENCE LEVEL (FOR SCHOOL SOLOS ONLY)
  • Gold Division: This division is for dancers with intermediate-to-advanced levels of dance experience.
  • Silver Division: This division is for dancers with beginning-to-intermediate levels of dance experience.
DANCE STYLE
  • Contemporary
  • Hip Hop
  • Jazz
  • Lyrical

AWARDS INFORMATION

Dancers will be recognized for awards by grade level, experience level, and dance genre. Top overall winners in each grade level division will be named our grade level solo winner. Top overall winners will also be named for Gold & Silver divisions, as well as by Dance Style!
